Halnaker Windmill (said Ha-naker) stands remotely atop Halnaker Hill. It was built in 1540 for the Duke of Richmond as the feudal mill of the Goodwood Estate and was a working mill until it was struck by lightning in 1905, damaging the sails and windshaft.
The windmill is rarther remote and can only be accessed via a 20 minute walk up the hill. The track is also unique in that the majority of the path runs through a stunning tree tunnel which makes for a very pleasant and enjoyable stroll.
The windmill is just oustide of the Chichester/Goodwood airport NFZ so you will need to keep an eye out for low flying aircraft, but these are few and far between as it is mainly used as a flying school.
Due to the remote location of the windmill there are no worries of other buildings getting in the way and it is the most open area I have currently flown.
